History Today

I am completely in awe today. What an amazing day to be an American. I am proud, excited, and hopeful. I cannot take my eyes off the tv because I am afraid I am going to miss something amazing.

I am pointing things out to my girls so they understand what a privilege it is to live in America and see things change like this. ANYONE can do ANYTHING!!!

President Obama we are with you and pray that you can make things happen for our country. Please let the hope pay off.

Skills Lost or Dormant

I have started to try and get involved in our church. I finally found a committee that works well for our schedule and is of interest to me.

I was a little surprised at how nervous I was for our first meeting. I was a little concerned about being able to interact with adults where my children were not involved. Could I still make intelligent conversation? Would I know what I was talking about?

It turned out fine. I was able to hold my own. But I need to keep practicing these skills. Because like everything, if you do not practice they go dormant until they are lost for good.

Mental Floss

I bought myself a magazine subscription from my friend son's school fundraiser. I was not sure if I would like it or not but it would be worth a try. It finally started coming right before Christmas.

The name of the magazine is Mental Floss. It is a quirky magazine with all sort of little bits of information. I love reading it and it makes me laugh out loud. I love that I am learning about different places in the world I never knew about before.

For example, someone asked if there were any unexplored places left in the world. The answer was yes. There is a world under the ice of Antarctica with its own lakes and rivers. And there is an island off India where no one can get to. The reasons for not going to these places are very different. In Antarctica, it would be environmentally damaging to get there. In India, it is because the people who live on the island are so violent. They shoot arrows at anyone who gets to close, no matter what.

I have learned about Namibia this month. I also learned about Rogers and Hammerstein's musical Oklahoma. But I really like trivia kind of knowledge.

If you are looking for a fun, interesting, off-the-wall knowledge magazine, I would recommend this one. I cannot wait for the next one to come.

Sad Today

I am having a sad day. We returned Gypsy to the shelter yesterday. She bit Grace again and it was exactly the right thing to do.

But like many things that are right, it was hard and it sucks. I find that even though it is easier to not have her around, I miss her. Caroline misses her but seems to understand. But she will not hear us say that the dog will be happier with another family. Grace misses her but I think she is happy she is gone. I think she misses the idea of a dog.

Now I am confused. Do we wait until Grace is older to have a dog? What kind of dog? What age? Too many questions, not enough answers. I am hoping they will come to me.

My Baby is 5

I cannot believe how fast time has gone. My baby Caroline is 5 today.

I am so excited (I love birthdays) but it hits me how fast time is going. I love all the milestones and changes and I cannot wait to see what she turns into. I just do not need to get any older ;-)

Here are some pictures from her Lady Bug Birthday Party with her friends.
